The UK will experience a mass roll out in smart and gas and electricity meters from the year 2014 and it is expected to deliver over £7 billion net benefit to the nation.
Charles Hendry, the Energy Minister, says that the meters will play a key role in bringing the country’s energy management into the 21st century; and that energy suppliers will be required to install smart meters in 28 million homes and two million smaller businesses in Britain.
The aim is deploy the smart meters to millions of homes and businesses to help slash the nation’s carbon emissions,
Hendry said: “They will bring benefits for consumers, giving us more control over how we use our energy at home and at work, helping us to cut energy consumption save money and reduce carbon emissions.”
Electric meters will provide consumers with accurate consumption information so there will be no more nasty surprises of estimated billing. It will also help suppliers to run their businesses more effectively.
The government has the ambition for every home in Great Britain to have a smart electricity and gas meter by the year 2019 to show consumers how much energy they are using.
Here at Electric Point, we have a plethora of timers and heating programmers to help Britons keep their home at a comfortable temperature without wasting fuel or heat therefore reducing their overall carbon footprint.
What are they? Essentially they allow householders to set ‘on’ and ‘off’ periods so you can set it to turn on by itself before you wake up so the house is lovely and toasty. And it means that you can set it to turn on just before you come home from work so after a hard day at work, you can snuggle on the couch and put your feet up in warm surroundings.
